What is PRSSA?

The Public Relations Student Society of America was established in 1968 by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), the nation’s largest and most influential organization for public relations professionals. Since then thousands of students throughout the nation have taken advantage of PRSSA as a key to their future in public relations and communications.

PRSSA at Chapman

The PRSSA chapter at Chapman University is an active organization which offers you a wide range of professional and social opportunities. Established in 1985, the chapter was the proud host of the 1994 South Pacific District Conference, which brought students from throughout the western states and Hawaii to campus for a weekend of seminars and social events. The chapter was presented the Chapter Development Award for outstanding achievement that year. The chapter hosts guest speakers on campus to talk about a wide range of public relations, marketing and advertising issues and positions. The chapter also hosts social events such as an annual Alumni BBQ, a campus-wide Ice Cream Social and field trips to locations chosen by the membership. PRSSA also participates in community service projects such as the Children’s Hospital of Orange County Annual Walkathon and the Haunted Crypt. The chapter also publishes a newsletter to keep members informed of its activities. What does membership in PRSSA offer you? · A good view of the working world of public relations, and the experience most students never get in the classroom. · Access to membership services and programs including professional connections, nationwide job referral network, Pride internships, internship-placement program, and on-campus access to Public Relations Journal and PR Tactics. · The valuable asset of Associate membership in the Public Relations Society of America upon graduation at a tremendous cost savings, which includes opportunities to network with groups such as the Young Professionals. · The chance to attend PRSSA-sponsored events, including national and district conferences, where leading professionals conduct seminars and workshops designed specifically for students. · The opportunity to compete against other students nationwide in the Bateman Case Study competition, a challenging and demanding "real world" public relations problem. · The opportunity to compete for local and national PRSA-sponsored scholarships. · And, since PRSSA is a student-governed organization, there are over a dozen chapter, district and national offices available each year, to give you the opportunity to develop leadership and administrative skills. The professional edge

PRSSA was founded to educate students about professional skills and techniques that they will need after graduation. Since this professional/student interaction is what PRSSA is all about, we will link you with men and women who are contributing to the communications industry everyday. We will give you the chance to hear information and ideas more current that even the newest textbook can possibly offer.

Internships

Internships are available through guest speaker contacts and PRSA members as well as through other local PR agencies, non-profit organizations and corporations.
