This is an Editorial for a special issue on Object-Oriented Programming, Parallelism, and Distribution of the journal Information Sciences published by North Holland. Papers for the special journal issue were authored by Gul Agha, Andrew Grimshaw, Denis Caromel, Juerg Gutknecht, and others. In September 1995, preliminary versions of the papers were presented at the Joint Conference on Information Sciences held in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina and sponsored by Duke University.
