Bio

A Lad and his Harp I have played music all my life. I began playing piano at a young age, and worked up to playing a light classical repetoire. When the exigencies of life militated against my having regular access to a piano, though, I sadly abandoned my piano studies. For many years, I kept my music alive by playing somewhat more portable instruments, such as the flute, the flagelot, the ocarina, the recorder or the concertina.

But all that time, I missed being able to do more than just melody -- my music was incomplete without harmony as well.

When, at last, I no longer had to worry about conserving space, I found myself drawn to the harp. All my life, I had been entranced by the sound of the harp, and gradually came to know that harp was the one instrument I wanted to study seriously. I began studying harp formally six years ago, and have been playing harp as my primary instrument ever since. Even more surprising, though, I discovered that while, with other instruments, I had only been an interpretive artist, never being able to compose pieces of my own, once I started learning the harp, I found that with each new technique I mastered, the more of my own music I found spontaneously creating itself as I played. These originals have, in keeping with my own musical tastes, a cheery, lilting Celtic sound. Other musicians praised these pieces to such an extent that I began including them in my repertoire with other pieces. I have found that audiences seem to enjoy these pieces on a par with the other kinds of music in my repertoire: light classical, folk, celtic and standards.

I hope that you will be intrigued enough by the relatively small sampling of music on this Website to hire me for your event and/or order a copy of my CD.
