Whew. Finals week is shining bright on the horizon and I've completed one of two major projects due in the coming days. That would be my spec script for an episode of the television show Joan of Arcadia. Yesterday I quarented myself in Braden Hall vowing to finish the second draft, which I did. I spent probably over half the time napping or pacing the halls or jumping up and down on my roommate's skateboard (sorry, Aaron) trying to think of what to write or how to fix a scene, but around two in the morning I finally finished it. Hooray!! I know I always tell y'all that I'm going to post stuff that I write up here and then never do, but this time I'm breaking with tradition. Which means you can read the script HERE!! (5-17: just updated the script to reflect a few changes in format and dialouge) There are a couple of format touch-ups that I want to fix, but in general I feel pretty good about it.
At least I think I do. I haven't turned it in yet so no one's really critiqued it at this point. I spent a lot of time on this script so I'd really love it if you took the time to read it over and tell me what you think. I won't lie, it's for an hour-long TV show and since the minute:page ratio is about 1:1, it's 62 pages, not exactly short, but there are lots of spaces and the font is Courier New, that one that looks like a type-writer and takes up a lot of space. Regardless, it can't take you longer to read than it took me to write, and any comments or criticisms would be CHERISHED. That's right, even if they're negative! A brief read-through of the link above should fill you in on the show if you're not familiar with it. Here's the quick version: She's a teenager. God talks to her.
That's it! Please read?

I got my hair cut I guess a week, no two weeks ago. It was long. In case you’ve forgotten, scroll down a ways to my passport picture. That’s how long it was. Now it is much shorter:

See? The sweater in that picture was a gift from Erin. I complained one time that all my clothes were falling apart and I didn’t want to buy new stuff, so she picked me up a used sweater and pair of pants and mailed them to me! Way cooler than shopping in a store, right? I love the idea of foraging through the fallout of our fallen, post-urban world, finding things that others cast off and making them beautiful and worthwhile again. I guess whether the sweater is beautiful or not is up for you to decide. It’s still nicer than most of my current wardrobe, which was all tailored to match my “I have long hair and no place to sleep,” look. No one would expect a dude with tresses like I used to have to wear a SUIT, but now that my haircut is respectable (well, more respectable) I suddenly have the option to not look like I’m homeless and looking for reffer. Hmm. Which look to cultivate? As much as I like the sweater Erin got me, I’m afraid that won’t become my new fashion standard, as it’s been 103 degrees around here the last few days. Guess I’ll stick with my worn out jeans, tee-shirts and shorts. It’s California, baby!
