This is a casemate wall. It consists of a an outer wall, often serving as the outer wall of a city, and a parallel wall running 4 to 5 feet. The space between the walls is divided into rooms or cells. They are found in the period of the Israelite monarchy. Similar ones are also found at Lachish, Hazor and Megiddo.
