The city gates were destroyed in a layer that seems to correspond with the end of Israelite hegemony in the north. This would reflect the invasion of the Assyrian king Tiglath Pileser III, mentioned in II Kings 17. (733 BCE) which is also depicted in a stone relief found in the ruins of the palace at Nimrud. While we know that northern sites like Hazor and Meggido were destroyed, there is no biblical evidence that the Assyrians got this far south, however. What do you think of this?
