The city gates were destroyed in a layer that seems to
correspond with the end of Israelite hegemony in the north. This
would reflect the invasion of the Assyrian king Tiglath Pileser
III, mentioned in II Kings 17. (733 BCE) which is also depicted in a stone
relief found in the ruins of the palace at Nimrud. While we know that northern sites like Hazor and Meggido
were destroyed, there is no biblical evidence that the Assyrians got this far
south, however. What do you think of this?
