Overview
Project 2015 is a Real-Time Strategy game where you are in command of a top UN humanitarian taskforce in order to effect sustainable change in impoverished or troubled communities around the world. Through careful planning of UN operations from start to finish, players learn about the UN Millennium Development Goals holistically and execute their plans seeing the consequences of their choices.
Players are given missions to various world regions and must select and administer the most appropriate aid for the given situation. Objectives range from crisis assessment, executing food drops, ensuring delivery of vital supplies, repairing infrastructure, and developing new community resources to ensure sustainability of the community after the taskforce has left. As the game progresses, players will be tasked with using innovative technology to solve some of the logistics and resource problems facing these communities.
Round 1 Submission
While the timeframe for the first round was from August to March 1st, we did not find out about the competition until the middle of February. After a long time of discussion and debate about how best to make a fun game using the 2009 theme, we spent the next several days hacking together a very rough concept demo of the type of gameplay we wanted to have. Because of the limited timeframe, we spent most of our time on coding rather than art, so the submission is far from complete art-wise. Stay tuned for the next submission!
The player controls a helicopter sent to locate displaced villagers of a town that has been caught in the middle of a civil war.

The abandoned village

The Helicopter has found the villagers. (Color indicates hunger)

When you bring the villagers back to the village and drop off supplies, reconstruction can begin

Be sure to bring as many of the villagers back as quickly as possible, hunger waits for no one!
As the game progresses, you will be tasked with helping the villagers continue the rebuilding process and expand the village in order to bring it to a level of self-sustainability in several areas that we have called the Community Sustainability Index:
- Health
- Hunger
- Poverty
- Education
- Environment
- Culture
Players must monitor all six of these indices and ensure that as they build the community, the additions will be appropriate based on the overall community conditions.
The game is not available for download at this time in order for us to make sure that the version you play is as fun as possible. However, if you are interested in play-testing the next version, please contact us!
