Unity and Sociology

On August 12, 2000, I received the Lester F. Ward Award for "distinguished contributions to applied sociology" from the Society for Applied Sociology.  The award was prsented at the joint meeting of SAS and the Sociological Practice Association.  I was asked to make some comments on the theme of the joint conference: Unity.
