The Practice of Social Research

Chapter Nine.  Survey Research

COMPARISON OF THE DIFFERENT SURVEY METHODS

This section will compare the various methods of administering surveys.

Self-administered surveys are typically the least expensive, though they have lower response rates than surveys which involve a personal contact.

Face-to-face interviews have the highest response rate and allow for the greatest depth of questionning, but they are also by far the most expensive.

Telephone surveys lie in between in terms of cost, but they are the most limited in the amount of data that can be collected.
