COMMITTEES


Curriculum and Academic Committee

A.   PURPOSE:

The purpose or primary function of this committee is to ensure that the academic offerings and programs are of high quality, meet the needs of the students and are consistent with the goals and objectives of University College.

B.  MEMBERSHIP:

The membership of the Curriculum and Academic Committee (CAC) will consist of Discipline Chairs for University College academic units. e.g. sociology, psychology, social sciences, education, computer sciences, criminal justice, organizational leadership, health administration, and humanities. The Discipline Chairs are chosen by their academic units and serve for a term of two years. 

The Chair of the CAC will be elected by the committee members for a one-year term.  The term may be repeated.  If a Discipline Chair does not wish to or cannot serve, a representative may be elected by the academic unit.  An Associate Dean shall serve as an ex-officio member.

C.  RESPONSIBILITIES:

The CAC will oversee all academic and curriculum issues that pertain to University College.  Responsibilities will include:

1. Recommending new programs (after submission by Discipline Chair)
2. Developing models and programs for educational effectiveness and outcome assessment
3. Reviewing curriculum and making recommendations to the Dean for changes
4. Approving new course syllabi for University College
5. Monitoring and revising academic policy
6. Reviewing student grievances and recommending resolutions
7. Serving as an advisory board to the Dean and Associate Deans in matters of overall educational development and policy
8. Meeting regularly with the Dean and Associate Deans
9. Meeting regularly during the academic year

D. VOTING:

A quorum for this committee shall consist of 60% of its members.



Faculty Personnel Committee


A    PURPOSE:

The purpose or primary function of this committee is to promote and act as an advocate for faculty development interests and needs.

B    MEMBERSHIP:

The committee will consist of seven (7) members elected by the faculty assembly of University College for a term of two years.  However, in the first year, one half of the members will be elected for a one-year term so that future terms will be staggered to provide continuity.  Members may serve successive terms.  The committee will elect the chairperson for a term of one year.  The committee must be representative of the academic units and all regions of University College.  An Associate Dean shall be an ex-officio member.

C.   RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

1 Developing guidelines for faculty development
2. Advocating for appropriate salaries and benefits
3. Developing mentorship programs for full-time, core, and part-time faculty
4. Recommending criteria for faculty hiring
5. Developing criteria for faculty promotion and making recommendations to the Dean
6. Consulting with Regional Associate Deans to determine teaching responsibilities of faculty members within their disciplines and appropriate release time for administrative and/or service activities
7. Responsible for faculty evaluation and review and making recommendations to the Dean for continued employment or termination

D.    VOTING:

A quorum will consist of 5 voting members.

The CAC and Personnel Committee may configure their membership as deemed necessary, including adding or subtracting subcommittees to carry out their designated functions and responsibilities.

The central goals of these committees are to enhance communication and simplify processes, while encouraging faculty involvement in the governance of University College.
