Fiber to the Premise: Introduction to Products and Tools

Description

A 16-hour (2-day Sat-Sun or 4-day Mon-Thu) Fiber-To-The-Premises (FTTP) Passive Optical Networks (PONs) class that teaches students how this fast-growing technology in the telecommunications market is delivering voice, video, data, security and other exciting high-bandwidth services to homes across the world.

Students will learn the operating principles of fiber optics, become familiar with optical fiber and cable types used in the FTTP networks. They will learn the principles and operation of various types of splice and test equipment and will learn how to splice together the optical fiber cables that bring high-bandwidth service connectivity to millions of homes worldwide.

Students will receive expert lecture and practical hands-on exposure to various types splicing technology including mechanical splicing, single-fiber fusion splicing, 12-fiber ribbon splicing, and filed-installable optical connectors. They will also learn how to operate the Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR), the industry’s most versatile testing and troubleshooting tool. 10 to 12 students and 2 instructors per class will ensure individual attention and an ideal learning environment.
