Arts Infusion - Designs for Literacy through Rhythm and Rhyme

The idea of infusing the arts into the classroom curriculum is gaining increasing recognition in education. There are so many ways to support the literacy based classroom curriculum while at the same time giving children the arts instruction that they deserve.

The research is there; and studies with at-risk students have shown amazing improvement in scores and attendance when the arts are infused into the curriculum. With time and space restraints, teachers who value the arts are looking to arts infusion as a way to provide valuable arts instruction to their students. How exciting to discover that when you are teaching the arts you are also addressing the basic standards of other subjects!

This course is designed to provide easy, practical approaches for integrating the arts into the classroom with integrity. Course instructors are highly qualified and experienced in the Orff process and elementary classroom teaching.

This course is for all teachers who wish to integrate the arts into the classroom curriculum with integrity. When Carl Orff was developing the process, he intended it to be for all educators, not just specialists.

You will leave with:

  • Activities for developing auditory processing and articulation in the elementary classroom.

  • Unique experiences designed to activate students’ listening abilities.

  • Experiences in world percussion, improvisation, movement, underscoring familiar children’s literature and picture books with adaptations to meet a wide range of abilities.

  • Focus on classroom management, constructive feedback, and setting up expectations.

  • Simple principles using a variety of percussion instruments that can be transformed into works for the classroom.

  • Activities that engage children to express their individual voices through exploration.
