For the last seven months, Lombard
has had the unique opportunity of interning as a writer’s
assistant for the hit television series, “Grey’s Anatomy.”
Lombard, a screenwriting major, secured one of only two internships
on the show after being recognized for her hard work as an intern
at ABC-Television last year. Her bosses at ABC gladly recommended
her to the show’s producers and Lombard continuously followed
up to check on any openings.
“I originally was going to apply for the summer, but ABC
asked me back full-time and paid, so I re-contacted Grey's later
in the summer to see if there was a fall position,” Lombard
said. “Luckily, there was and they kept me around this spring
as well!”
Kristin Beavers, internship coordinator for Chapman University,
said internships like Lombard’s are both rare and highly competitive.
According to Beavers, students must work “hard and smart”
in planning for and securing internships like this, something Lombard
has continuously striven for during her time at Chapman.
“She has done at least four internships and has proven herself
at each one,” Beavers said. “Therefore, she has become
increasingly competitive for the ‘choice’ internships.”
Lombard has been passionate about writing since she was young,
so deciding on a screenwriting major seemed like a natural choice
for her. She says she considered being a director “for about
five minutes” but ultimately was encouraged to further develop
her writing skills.
