“The spontaneity was refreshing,”
Logan explained. “To be able to drive along the coast with
the Pacific Ocean on one side and hills and forest on the other
– it was a very therapeutic getaway.”
Four days later she returned home from the perfect mini-vacation.
With summer upon them, college students often become restless. Vacations
are a necessary part of summer, whether you travel with family or
friends. Unfortunately, far off adventures in exotic locales are
not usually within the budget of a college student. But just because
you’re making minimum wage doesn’t mean you can’t
partake in some summer travel. A little planning and creativity
go a long way. Just listen to the advice of some fellow Chapman
students who have learned how to make the most out of traveling
on a budget:
A road trip like Logan’s makes for a great vacation. Gas
prices may not be as low as we would all like, but when you’ve
got four people in a car splitting the cost, it becomes much more
manageable. You can find good hotel deals with some planning, and
anyone with a AAA card is going to find even better deals. (Plus
you get those free AAA road maps.) Stopping at small towns along
the road makes for a great trip within itself, and these out-of-the-way
places provide unique experiences without all the usual tourist
trappings of more popular destinations. One of Logan’s favorite
stops was the small town of Morro Bay, which has good shopping,
clam chowder, and great salt water taffy. Other enjoyable towns
included Big Sur, Cayucos, and Santa Cruz.
