Following is a list of frequently encountered problems and their possible resolutions. If you are unable to solve your issue by following these steps, please contact us for further assistance.
My printer is printing a long report I don't want.
Problem: I can't log on to the HP.
Solution: There are a dozen possible reasons you may not be able to connect to the HP. Call Operations for assistance.
Problem: I can't get a BEA prompt.
Solution: Check all cables and connectors to your terminal or PC.
If you are using an HP terminal, turn the power off, wait a moment, and turn the power back on. Press the [User System] key next to the [F5] key, then press the [F4] key to display terminal modes. Be sure that an asterisk (*) appears next to REMOTE MODE, otherwise press [F4]. Be sure that an asterisk DOES NOT appear next to AUTO LF, otherwise press [F8] to turn that option off. Press [Return] a couple of times to get a prompt. If this fails to work, contact Operations to submit a work order.
If you are using a terminal emulator from your PC, such as Win92 or Reflection, be sure the settings (see below) are correct for your type of connection. If you are connecting via the network (most people using terminal emulation software are), it is possible that the network has experienced a temporary outage, preventing you from reaching the HP over the network. Contact Operations to verify network status.
Users of Win92 (also known as Minisoft 92) should go to the "Config" menu and select "Comms and Network." Be sure the NS/VT option is selected and press OK. You will be taken to a window that will display an IP address (ie, 206.211.xxx.xxx). Contact Operations to get this address if the field is blank or you suspect the address is incorrect. Press OK and press [Return] a couple of times to get a prompt. If this fails to work, contact Operations to submit a work order.
Users of Reflection should go to the "Connection" menu and select "Connection Setup." Be sure the "Connect using" option is set at "Best Network" and the "Best Network Order" is indicated as VT-MGR then TELNET. Be sure the "Host/Service name" displays an IP address (ie, 206.211.xxx.xxx). Contact Operations to get this address if the field is blank or you suspect the address is incorrect. Press OK and press [Return] a couple of times to get a prompt. If this fails to work, contact Operations to submit a work order.
Problem: My printer is printing a long report I don't want.
Solution: Put the printer offline and call Operations immediately. Often, pages will continue to print even after we are able to clear the print spooler because the printer has a buffer, or memory, that must empty before the spooler can reissue another print job.
Problem: I can't remember my password.
Solution: Contact your system programmer. Operations staff are not permitted to reissue passwords to the campus community for security reasons.
