Here are some of the questions we get asked most often. If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for, please contact us: Amanda Melilli, Brandman University Library Assistant, at acladocs@chapman.edu, (800) 344-5756 Ext. 1 or Annie Knight, Brandman University Librarian, at aknight@chapman.edu, (800) 344-5756 Ext. 2.
Can I request that an item be sent out on a specific date?
No. Unfortunately, due to the amount of requests that we receive on a daily basis, we are unable to hold items to be sent out at a later date of the term. We begin working on requests as soon as we receive them, and checkouts are based on a first come first served basis.
How do I know if my order was sent or not?
Once an item has shipped, you will receive an email confirmation through your Chapman University email account. If you do not receive an email confirmation by the next business day, please call the Brandman University Library Assistant at (800) 344-5756 Ext. 1.
Why would there be a problem with my request?
Problems with an order can arise for a variety of reasons. There are the rare occasions that an item is simply missing in our collection and cannot be located even though the status is marked as available. Other times, items belong to a special collection and cannot be mailed. You will receive an email notification through your Chapman University email account explaining any problems with your order. If you ever have any questions, please contact the Brandman University Library Assistant at (800) 344-5756 Ext.1 or acladocs@chapman.edu.
What does “placing an item on hold” mean?
You can place a “hold” on any item that is currently checked out to another patron. Once a hold has been placed, the item cannot be renewed, and once returned, it will be set aside for the first person who placed the hold. Holds are only available for items checked out to other patrons.
How do I place a “hold” on an item?
You may place a hold by using our online catalog found at the Leatherby Libraries website, www.chapman.edu/library, under Start Your Search. An item with a status of “DUE mm/dd/yy” may be put on hold. When you have pulled up the item record (click on the title until there is only one item listed on the page), look to the upper right for a link entitled Place a hold. Click the link and then enter your name and seven-digit barcode, which is your Chapman ID# (not your username and password). Follow the instructions. If you have any problems placing a hold, please call the Brandman University Library Assistant. If you do not know your Chapman ID#, contact your Brandman University campus.
What happens when my “hold” item is returned?
You will be notified by email through your Chapman email account that the item has been returned and is ready to be checked out. All you need to do at this point is contact our Brandman University department at (800) 344-5756 Ext. 1 to tell us that you still want the item. If we do not hear back from you after five days, the item will either be passed on to the next requester or it will be re-shelved.
How do I know if I have a fine?
You will be notified by a courtesy email through your Chapman email account, or you can check your library account online. To access your library account online, click My Account at the Leatherby Libraries homepage, www.chapman.edu/library. Then, enter your name and seven-digit barcode, which is your Chapman ID# (not your username and password) (if you do not know your ID#, contact your Brandman University campus). This will allow you to not only see if there are any fines, but also the status of all items checked out on your account. Or, you can call the Brandman University Library Assistant at (800) 344-5756 Ext. 1, M-F, 8am – 5pm.
How do I pay a fine?
You can either make a payment in person at Leatherby Libraries or by mail. We accept cash or checks for in-person payment transactions. Only checks (not cash) are accepted for payment transactions through mail. To pay a fine by mail, make checks payable to CHAPMAN UNIVERSITY for the exact amount (we cannot accept rounded numbers) and mail to:

I don’t have my Chapman username and password. Can the library give it to me?

I’m having a hard time accessing Electronic Resources. What’s wrong?
