Mission:

The Information Systems Resource Center (ISRC) was created to enhance the education of Chapman University undergraduates with an experiential component and to utilize the expertise of Chapman University undergraduates to deliver information systems services to the University and to the community.

Rationale:

Many of the students in Chapman's Computer Science and Computer Information Systems programs are working information systems professionals, while many others are more traditional 18 to 22 year old students with little or no professional experience. The ISRC provides a mechanism for these two groups of students to work together on information systems projects which will immediately benefit both the University and the community.

The idea of forming the ISRC was an outgrowth of the CpSc353 Data Communications and Computer Networks course taught during Interterm 1995. As part of this course, the students developed a World Wide Web server for Chapman. This project was exciting for both the students and for the university. By the end of the Interterm session we had received numerous requests from the Chapman Community for enhancements to the Web server, and many of the students were very enthusiastic about continuing their work. We had also received a number of requests from the community, including private businesses and public school districts.

Objectives:

The ISRC was formed in the Spring semester, 1995. It initially consists of a group of 8 students working on Chapman University internships under the direction of Dr. Michael Fahy.

During this first semester, the ISRC will focus its efforts on enhancing the quality and quantity of institutional information available electronically through the Chapman University World Wide Web server and gopher server.
