Phys 101 General Physics I
Prerequisite, Math 105. Corequisite or prerequisite, Math 110. Students study mechanics, wave motion, and heat. (Offered fall semester.) 4 credits.


Phys 102 General Physics II
Prerequisite, Phys 101. Corequisite or prerequisite, Math 111. Students study electricity, magnetism, light, introduction to atomic structure. (Offered spring semester.) 4 credits.


Phys 104 Introduction to Physical Science
An introduction to physical sciences with emphasis on earth space science and an introduction to chemistry and physics. Designed to meet the general education requirements in the natural sciences, this course will use topics of current interest to introduce non-scientists to basic principles of physical science. Lecture, demonstration, discussion, laboratory. (Offered every semester.) 3 credits.


Phys 104 L Physical Science Lab
Prerequisite, concurrent enrollment in Phys 104. Laboratory experiences designed to highlight various areas of physical science including chemistry, physics, geology, and astronomy. (Offered every semester.) 1 credit.


Phys 105 , 106 Fundamentals of Physics I, II
Prerequisite, Math 104 or instructor’s consent. A two-semester sequence covering concepts of mechanics, wave motion and sound, thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism, optics, and atomic physics. This algebra-based treatment is not intended for students pursuing a B.S. degree in the natural sciences. 3-3 credits.


Phys 111 General Physics I Lab
Fee: $25. (Offered fall semester.) 1 credit.


Phys 112 General Physics II Lab
Fee: $25. (Offered spring semester.) 1 credit.


Phys 115 , 116 Fundamentals of Physics Laboratory I, II
Corequisites, Phys 105, 106 or instructor’s consent. A two-semester laboratory sequence including experiments in mechanics, wave motion and sound, thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism, optics, and atomic physics to accompany Phys 105, 106. Fee: $25. 1-1 credits.


Phys 201 Electronics
Prerequisite, Phys 102 or instructor’s consent. Students study transistors and other solid state devices, linear and digital integrated circuits, as well as their applications in instrumentation, music, etc. 3 credits.


Phys 203 Acoustics of Music
Prerequisite, Math 99. An introduction to the science of acoustics which assumes no prior course work in physics. Particular emphasis is placed on the production, transmission, and perception of musical sounds. 3 credits.
