Hum 200 Womens Realities CH II
An introduction to womens studies as an academic discipline and a critical analysis of the traditional views of women as individuals, members of families, and societies. The perspective is historical as well as cross-cultural. (Offered every semester.) 3 credits.
Hum 205 Introduction to Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual Studies
An introductory survey covering psychological and biological theories of orientation, the historical and anthropological record of sexuality and affection in both western and non-western societies, the legal and political history of homosexual movements, and religious teachings on homosexuality. Attention will also be given to the role of lesbian/gay/bisexual artists in the history and theory of the arts. (Offered alternate years.) 3 credits.
Hum 210 Movement and Music for the Elementary School
Prerequisite, Mes 166, or instructors consent. Students
study the purposes, origins, and development of dance and music as
they influence and react to social, economic, and political changes
throughout history. Students build on this music and dance heritage
as they learn how to connect and apply these arts to lessons appropriate
for the elementary classroom. Videotape viewing, audio tape listening
and/or applied arts activities weekly. (Offered spring semester.)

Hum 316 From Latin America to Los Angeles: Culture and Ways of Life CH II
Students are introduced to the culture of Latin America in the areas of literature, philosophy, art, music, dance, cinema, and architecture; Latin American culture as the expression of a multiethnic and multicultural way of life; and Latino culture in the United States. (Offered fall semester.) 3 credits.
Hum 318 Contemporary German-Speaking Cultures
Tracing the historical development of the German-speaking areas, this course will examine the interaction of the German-speaking cultures both economically and politically with their European neighbors, especially since reunification. Cultural developments in twentieth century art, music, literature and film and the changing face of Europe, the role to the German-speaking countries in the European Union as well as recent developments within NATO will be some of the topics included in this course. (Taught in English.) (Offered every year.)

Hum 350
Prerequisite, Eng 104. From todays Los Angeles to
classical Athens, cities have shaped and transformed western civilization.
Utilizing technology, this multi-disciplinary course investigates
contemporary Los Angeles and its urban predecessors, such as Athens,
Madrid, Paris, London, and Vienna, as crossroads of cultural change.
3 credits.
Hum 365 Culture, Theater, and the Visual Arts
Art 260/460 or 261/461 and Td 150 recommended, but not required.
An interdisciplinary course in which theater, painting, sculpture,
and architecture are used to explore some of the major questions that
continue to preoccupy western civilization at the end of the 20th
century. Discussions will center around five themes: the search for
God; man/woman and nature; the cult of the machine; mortality and
immortality; male and female. Lecture and discussions, theater, and
museum field trips. 3 credits.
