Bachelor of Arts Bachelor of Fine Arts
The theatre and dance department offers several

programs tailored to the specific goals of each discipline. Degree candidates may consider a pre-professional bachelor of fine arts degree with the following emphases: ° Dance Performance ° Theatre Performance Acting for the Stage Concentration Acting for the Camera Concentration ° Theatre Technology

Degree candidates may also consider the more broad-based bachelor of arts degree with emphases in Dance, Dance/ Theatre or Theatre. These degrees provide excellent preparation for those who plan to attend graduate school.

Students pursuing a B. A. or B. F. A. in the theatre and dance department must maintain at least a 2.0 GPAin all required work. In addition, they must receive at least a C (not a C-) in all required courses. All required courses must be taken for a letter grade. Students must earn a GPA of 3.33 in major courses to be considered for departmental honors.

Admittance to all theatre and dance programs is by audition/ interview only.

The bachelor of fine arts programs are designed for students who plan to enter the professional world of dance, theatre, theatre technology, or film/ television performance. These programs require 58Ð 61 credits.

The bachelor of arts programs require 41Ð 46.5 credits, which allows students to take electives in other disciplines, making it possible to pursue double majors or minors.

Extracurricular Opportunities

Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Dance Emphasis in Dance
The curriculum for dance is both flexible and thorough.

It is designed for students who wish conservatory-level dance training within the context of a liberal arts degree. The B. A. emphasis allows the student to be a generalist. Students are encouraged to take a double major or take additional electives. All B. A. and dance emphases must be enrolled in at least one dance technique class (1 credit classes) per semester.

Emphasis in Dance/ Theatre
The emphasis in dance/ theatre provides students with the combined advantage of highly developed skills in both dance and theatre. The curriculum is flexible and thorough in its two disciplines. It develops competencies in acting, dancing, directing, and choreography, as well as some special skills in theatre technology. Dance/ Theatre students must enroll in Td 119 and Td 155 during their first semester. Transfer students must audition for placement into performance classes.

Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre and Dance Emphasis in Dance Performance
Acceptance to the B. F. A. emphasis in Dance

Performance is by audition only. Entrance to Level III technique classes and performance in two mainstage dance concerts are required before admission to the B. F. A. program will be considered.

The dance performance emphasis is designed to provide students with professional dance training within the context of related theatre and dance arts. The emphasis prepares students for careers in dance performance, choreography, and teaching, while building a foundation in the liberal arts. All B. F. A. dance emphases must be enrolled in at least two dance techniques classes (1 credit classes) per semester.

Emphasis in Theatre Technology
The emphasis in theatre technology provides students with detailed theoretical and hands-on preparation for professional careers in theatre production and technology. Required performance study will provide students with an appreciation of the performer while providing an understanding of the history, literature, and traditions of the theatre. Students seeking a B. F. A. in Theatre Technology are strongly advised to consider an art minor. Acceptance into the B. F. A. in Theatre Technology program is by interview/ portfolio review. B. F. Emphasis in Theatre Performance
The B. F. A. in performance gives the student a strong training program for a professional career in acting. The program is divided into two concentrations: acting for the stage and acting for the camera. The acting for the stage program allows students to explore performance as an outlet for acquired technique. The acting for the camera program allows students to explore recognized acting techniques, technical apparatus that influence the

craft, and on-camera training. Students are provided sufficient opportunity to demonstrate their talent in campus stage, film, and television productions, and are encouraged to pursue professional internships.

B. F. A. candidates in Theatre Performance must enroll in Td 119 and Td 155 during their first semester. Transfer students must audition for placement into performance classes.

Students will be admitted to the B. F. A. program, emphasis in Theatre Performance, upon entrance to Td 419 (Text Analysis and Scence Study). A student must audition for Td 419 as the culminating experience of a Td 319 (Building a Character) class or through an arrangement with the director of the Acting Performance program.
