Fin 307 The Financial System

Prerequisites, Econ 200, 201. Financial intermediation and institutions, central banking, financial markets, and monetary economics. Financial institutions and the instruments and procedures used for loans and investments to meet the demand for funds in the money and capital markets. The impact of fiscal and monetary policy changes on interest rates is examined. Provides a background for understanding the financial structure and capital markets for business majors. Fin 317 Financial Management

Prerequisites, Actg 211; Econ 200, 201; Mgsc 309. Principles governing the financial management and control of enterprises with emphasis on the role of the financial manager; the planning and managing of assets and the financial structure; the management of short-term and long-term funds; cost of capital and capital budgeting; the evaluation of dividend policy; reorganization and liquidation analysis; international environment of financial decisions. (Offered every semester.) 3 credits.

Fin 327 Intermediate Financial Management

Prerequisite, Fin 317. This course emphasizes intermediate financial theory. The topics of discussion include financial ratio analysis; breakeven analysis; cash, marketable securities, inventory and accounts receivable; management models; dividend policy; merger; capital budgeting; and international finance. (Offered every semester.) 3 credits.

Fin 410 International Financial Management

Prerequisite, Fin 317. Application of principles of international financial management. Topics include foreign exchange markets, analysis of risks and problems unique to business involved in international operations, international sources and uses of funds, and some review of long-term assets and liability management, capital budgeting, and corporate strategy. (Offered spring semester.) 3 credits.

Fin 421 Investments

Prerequisites, Actg 211, Fin 317. Investment principles and practices, emphasis on problems of the small investor. The evaluation, selection, and management of securities; investment principles; trading methods and valuation; different types of investments and savings; sources of information available to assure wise investing; and interpretation of financial statements. (Offered fall semester.) 3 credits.

Fin 427 Advanced Financial Management

Prerequisite, Fin 317. This course emphasizes advanced financial theory and current/future practices and issues. Included are such topics as capital budgeting, short- and long-term funding, business combinations, failure analysis, and international finance. 3 credits.

Fin 435 Financing Entrepreneurial Enterprises

Prerequisites, Fin 317, Mgmt 435. This course provides an in-depth examination of financial issues of particular importance to entrepreneurs. Topics include estimating capital requirements and risk, identifying and evaluating sources of capital, and liquidity events. Issues associated with structuring partnership arrangements and other alliances will also be discussed. (Offered spring semester.) 3 credits.

Fin 496 Special Topics in Finance

In-depth study of a specific area; content of course determined by interested student and instructor. May be repeated once. 3 credits.
