concepts, pricing in competitive and non-competitive markets, capital
theory, resource pricing, public choice, environmental economics,

314 United States Business and Economic History
Prerequisite,
general knowledge of American history, normally satisfied by American
high school courses or a college survey of American history.
The course examines the changing roles of entrepreneurs, business,
the financial structure, the government in the United States from
colonial times to the present, with an emphasis on the twentieth
century. Focus of the course is on individuals who substantially
changed the way Americans lived by creating new products, new technology
or changed methods of operating. In addition to examining how the
individual changed lifestyles of others, the entrepreneurs
own ethics, lifestyle and background will be examined. The course
is suitable for business majors interested in entrepreneurship or
economics, history majors, or general education social science requirements.

Prerequisites,
Econ 200, 201, Mgsc 208. An intermediate course in microeconomics
theory. Theory of demand derived from indifference curves and revealed
preference. Supply analysis derived from cost and production functions.
Product and resource pricing for both price seeking and price taking
firms. Other topics covered include externality theory, game theory,
and public choice. (Offered spring semester.) 3 credits.

Econ 200, 201. Provides a theoretical understanding of macroeconomics.
Aggregate supply and demand curves, IS-LM and algebraic models are
used to analyze classical, Keynesian, and modern theories of the
economy, and the national and international implications of policy
decisions. (Offered fall semester.) 3 credits.

Econ 200, 201. The theory of international trade policy is examined,
including effects of tariffs, quotas, subsidies, exchange control,
and other trade restrictions upon a nation's economy. Analysis of
balance of payments. Causes and methods of correction of disequilibrium
in the balance of payments. Study trade associations. (Offered fall

Econ 200, 201. Theories of environmental and natural resource
economics will be examined both for allocative efficiency and for
impacts on growth. The theory of public choice and the theory of
market failure will be studied. Theory will be applied to renewable
and nonrenewable resources and to pollution of air, water, and land.
