Bus 100 Introduction to Business

Prerequisite, none. Not open to students with a major or minor in business. An overview of the American business environment to provide insights into the nature of business. Topics covered include business ownership, techniques of decision making and control, managing people and funds, marketing, production, accounting, impact of legal restrictions, labor unions, and consumerism on business decisions. (Offered every semester.) 3 credits.

Bus 215 Legal and Ethical Environment of Business

Prerequisite, none. Introduction into the legal business environment as it relates to agencies, partnerships, and corporations. Emphasis on law of contracts. Brief review of torts and crimes and their interaction with various business entities. Analyses of ethical issues as they relate to business decisions. (Offered every semester.) 3 credits.

Bus 216 Business Ethics

Prerequisite, Eng 104 or equivalent. Ethics and its scope in the context of its bearing on business is discussed. The course briefly covers the presuppositions of ethics and how ethics and economics are compatible, the structure of ethics, its various branches, and some of the main ethical theories. Business and corporate ethics are the focus of the course. Topics covered will include advertising, employment, governmental regulation, cost-benefit analysis, social responsibility of corporationis, unjust discrimination, international trade, insider trading, worker’s rights and duties, hostile takeovers, plant closings, and trade. (Offered Interterm and fall semesters.) 1 credit.

Bus 217 Business Communication: Writing Skills

Prerequisite, Eng 104 or equivalent. This course is designed to provide students with the practical application of the principles of written communication with a special emphasis on business and management. (Offered every semester.) 1 credit.

Bus 218 Business Communication: Oral Skills

Prerequisite, Com 101 or equivalent. This course is designed to provide students with the practical application of the principles of oral communication with a special emphasis on business and management. (Offered every semester.) 1 credit.

Bus 415 Business Law II

Prerequisite, Bus 215. Commercial law of real and personal property. Extensive study of the Uniform Commercial Code related to sales, negotiable instruments, and secured transactions. Also bankruptcy and securities law. Recommended for students planning to take the C.P.A. examination. (Offered spring semester, alternate years.) 3 credits.

Bus 475 Business Policy: An International Perspective

Prerequisites, senior standing and completion of lower and upper core requirements. This course provides for the examination of the relationships between policy-making, strategy, tactics, and organizational control. Policy formulation and execution are of primary importance. Issues surrounding corporate ethics and social responsibility are investigated. (Offered every semester.) 3 credits.

Bus 491 Cooperative Education

Prerequisites, completion of lower-division core requirements; junior or senior standing; up-to-date résumé. Cooperative education is a process of education which formally integrates a student's academic and/or career interests with productive work experiences in cooperating employer organizations. Through this interaction, students enhance their academic knowledge, persist in the continuation of their education, and improve their personal and professional development. (Offered every semester.) 1-6 credits in one position. Graded pass/no pass.

Bus 496 Special Topics in Business

In-depth study of a specific area; content of course determined by interested students and instructor. May be repeated once. 3 credits.

Bus 499 Independent Study

Prerequisite, approval of petition. For students who wish to pursue a special area of study not included in the curriculum. (Offered every semester.) 1-3 credits. Maximum of 6 credits.
