| 10/25 | Whittier | W, 45-28 | 3-5 |
Chapman 45, Whittier 28 – Chapman used 20 unanswered points in the second half to defeat the visiting Poets, 45-28 on homecoming weekend. With the win the Panthers have won two of their past three games heading into their bye week, and will have two weeks to prepare for rival La Verne, in La Verne on November 8th.
The Panthers came out of the locker room and put twelve quick points on the board, leading 12-0 at the end of the first quarter. The Poets stormed back in the second quarter and shocked the Panthers with 22 points and trailed by only three points at the half, 25-22. After the halftime firework show and a brief Whittier lead of 28-25, the Panthers came out with some of their own fireworks by scoring three straight touchdowns to finish off the Poets.
Senior two-way player Michael Carter (Moreno Valley/Valley View High), playing in the final home game of his Chapman career, led the Panthers with 26 carries for a career-best 223 yards and three touchdown runs. The Chapman offense totaled a season-high 444 yards rushing. Junior quarterback Patrick Josten (Irvine/University High) also found the endzone three times on the ground. Josten hit a reaching sophomore wide receiver A.J. Herrera (Alta Loma/Damien High) in the corner of the endzone with a 20-yard touchdown pass for the Panthers first score of the second half, giving them the lead for good.
Carter also played solid defense turning in three sacks and a total of four tackles for a loss. The Chapman (3-5) defense only allowed just six points in the second half to the Poets.

| 10/24 | Colorado College | W, 3-2 | 11-11 |
| 10/30 | Caltech | W, 3-0 | 12-11 |
Chapman 30, 30, 19, 27, 18, Colorado College 27, 26, 30, 30, 16 – A year ago, Chapman’s women’s volleyball team couldn’t buy a win in five games. The Panthers lost six of seven matches in 2002 that went the distance, including the last six in a row. They even lost their first two five-game matches in 2003. Now they can’t lose in five. In fact, they just flat aren’t losing, period. Chapman took the first two games versus visiting Colorado College on Saturday night, then held on to win a thrilling fifth game by a final of 18-16, evening their record at .500 for the first time since September 5th when the team was 1-1. Chapman, which began the season 3-9, has won nine of its past 11 matches and is 6-1 in the Hutton Center this year. The Tigers finished with more kills (75-to-66), digs (126-to-117), and blocks (9-to-4), but couldn’t pull the match out in the end. Chapman served up 10 aces in the match, including a career-high six from senior outside hitter Darby Stern (Topanga Canyon/Viewpoint High). Stern also led the way offensively with a team-high 22 kills. Junior setter Renee Garand (Fullerton/Sunny Hills High) recorded 55 assists in the win.
Chapman 30, 30, 30, Caltech 14, 17, 15 – Chapman defeated Caltech
in three straight games and has won eight out of its last nine matches
to surge from a 3-9 record, to above .500 for the first time this season
at 12-11. Darby Stern tied a school record with seven service aces in the
match. With 13 aces in her past two matches, the senior is now three aces
shy of her own single-season aces mark of 46, set in 2002. Junior middle
blocker Sara
Naumann (Oxnard/Oxnard High) led the Panthers with seven kills
and 12 digs and recorded a hitting percentage of .700 (seven kills, no
errors in 10 attacks).
