Abstract

This study investigated student performance and student satisfaction of preservice general education and special education students who participated in two types of online instruction.  These included: (a) asynchronous text-based online lectures via WebCT/Blackboard  and (b) synchronous web conferencing lectures via Elluminate Live.  Results of the study revealed that both types of lectures are effective in delivering online instruction. Additionally, 73.2% of the students indicated that they would rather take an online course that uses synchronous web conferencing lectures than an online course that uses asynchronous text-based lectures. Students’ perception of their technology skills also improved over the course of the semester.
