This is a book about the purpose of your life and the purpose of life in general.  So, in case you don't know what your purpose is, you've finally come to the right place.

     For a number of years now, I've been studying the phenomenon of "trance channeling," where channelers or mediums claim to serve as conduits for a variety of spirits to communicate with humans.   I've done my research as a sociologist, with neither the intent to confirm or debunk the phenomenon.

     While I have reached no firm conclusions about the "reality" of channeling, I've had many opportunities to reflect on the idea of worlds beyond this one, and how this one relates to the others.  A number of my interviews dealt with the process and purpose of spirits taking on human lives for the purpose of spiritual evolution, and I found some of those ideas interesting as possibilities.

     I have not accepted any of the ideas I heard, nor should you accept any of the ideas in this book.  I think there may be value for you in entertaining some of these ideas as possibilities.  I have used the word "entertain" deliberately.  When you invite guests into your home, you hope the experience will be enjoyable and perhaps of some lasting value.  But the guests go home afterward.  You shouldn't believe anything I say here, but I think some of the things I say may stimulate your own reflections in a useful way.
